The terms, statement accessories and clothing statement pieces, are thrown around quite often. You see them in image captions and various discussions about designing and styling outfits. But the actual meaning in clear language can be somewhat obscured.
If you’re looking to enhance your clothing with bold statement accessories, think jewelry, hats, hair accessories, and shoes. The main question then becomes how do you define these items as statement accessories? What qualifies as a fashion statement and what doesn’t? It’s all a matter of personal opinion. When adding one accessory to your outfit, ask yourself the following questions. Does this new addition bring more of an interesting detail to my ensemble? Does it stand out from the rest of your accessories? Is it the first piece that people notice when they see you? Do you feel more confident when wearing it?
When answering these questions, be honest with yourself. If one item makes you feel more positive as well as helps you attract compliments from others, you can define it as a statement accessory. It’s what makes your outfit, and without it, your attire would appear slightly different.
